About Living in Languages Journal

Living in Languages Journal is an international, peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to advancing translation studies across and beyond disciplines. Although we originated from the University at Albany's annual Living in Languages colloquium and maintain strong ties to it, our journal has expanded its oversight to include professors and researchers from multiple institutions, as well as guest editors. Our editorial team includes scholars from UAlbany's Department of English, Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures (LLC), and Writing and Critical Inquiry Program, as well as scholars from Westfield State University's English Department and the University of Massachusetts Amherst's Afro-American Studies Department. We are committed to promoting linguistic diversity, cultural heterogeneity, and international scholarship, encouraging an inclusive community of critical and creative academics and independent researchers.

Our Mission:

  1. Promote Translation Studies: We aim to encourage the practice and study of translation across languages, cultures, and disciplinary boundaries.

  2. Support Academic Growth: By developing papers from courses and colloquium presentations into publishable works, we help graduate students, early career researchers, and independent researchers develop their work.

  3. Ensure Accessibility: Our journal makes research by graduate students, early career professionals, and independent researchers openly available, increasing visibility and accessibility.

  4. Facilitate Mentorship: We provide an apprenticeship-style experience, guiding graduate students through the publication process with faculty support.

  5. Encourage Interdisciplinary Connections: We foster interdisciplinary and transnational research, enhancing connections among graduate students and scholars from around the world.

  6. Welcome Experimental and Creative Works: We embrace experimental and creative works surrounding translation, encouraging innovative approaches and diverse expressions in the field.
